On Sunday, March 4, 2007, Mr. Daniel L. Persons (2nd from right), Special Assistant to the President of Local 1549, was honored by the New York Chapter of the N.A.A.C.P. at the organization's Annual Black Heritage Awards program.

Mr. Persons, was honored along with Mr. Michael O. Griffith (2nd from left) and Mr. Albert Simmons (c.), for their Black History Month Health Screening Project which offered free diabetes, HIV, prostate and cholesterol screenings for men, at three Harlem locations.  All three are members of the Board of the New York Chapter.
