NYPD 911 Communications Chapter honored for heroic acts of achievement

On January 18th, 2023, the unseen heroes of the Local 1549 PCT/SPCT NYPD 911 Communications Chapter were honored at 1 Police Plaza in New York City. Over 100 Local 1549 members were honored for their dedication to keeping our city safe.

Amongst the heroes was Jessica Collazo who was awarded Dispatcher of the year for handling the shooting that occurred April 12th, 2022 at the 36th Street subway station in Sunset Park during rush-hour.

Child Care Subsidies Available

The income thresholds for Child Care Facilitated Enrollment have increased to 300% of Federal Poverty Levels (FPL) and now have much lower co-pays. The increase means more DC 37 members may be eligible for subsidized daycare programs for working families in New York City and Suffolk County, Long Island. 

HPV/ Preventable Cancers Facts and Resource

Nearly 85% of adults between the ages of 18 and 65 will have at least one strain of HPV at some point in their life. Human papillomavirus (HPV) and the cancers caused by the virus are everyone’s concern. The HPV vaccine protects against the types of HPV that most often cause cervical cancers. HPV can also cause other kinds of cancer in both men and women.

Student Loan Repayment Update

On Nov. 21, President Biden paused the repayment of federal student loans to start after June 2023, to allow the federal appeals court time to decide the case.

On Nov. 14, a federal appeals court issued a nationwide injunction temporarily barring the Biden’s student loan debt relief program that would have cancelled up to $20,000 in student debt for federal loan borrowers. Please be aware that the program is suspended and the website is no longer accepting applications.

Tripledemic Update: Stay Healthy Through the Holidays

In response to the winter season tripledemic-- a rise in respiratory infections and hospitalizations due to COVID-19, the flu and RSV-- the Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, DOHMH, has issued a health advisory recommending everyone regardless of vaccination status wear a mask in indoor public settings and crowded outdoor spaces.

Message from the Administrator - No Dues Increase

Local 1549 Members:

Happy New Year. I hope everyone had a safe holiday season.  

After careful consideration and review by the administratorship team, Local 1549 applied for and received a waiver from the 2023 dues increase. Minimum dues are determined by a process adopted and included in the AFSCME Constitution in 1978. Based on that process, the minimum dues for 2023 increase is $1.55 per member per month for full-time members.
