As many as 250,000 New Yorkers are eligible for student loan forgiveness and 20,000 Department of Education employees are now eligible. Over 7,500 New Yorkers have already been forgiven an average of $63,935 in student debt. There’s a lot more money still on the table. You could be next!

But time is running out! You must apply by October 31, 2022! Learn more here.

After 14 years with a broken mess, the U.S. Department of Education has created a temporary fix to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, but you must apply for the waiver before it expires on Oct. 31, 2022. Through PSLF more than 250,000 New Yorkers are eligible to have all their student loans erased.

DC 37 is proud to work alongside the PSLF.nyc Student Debt Free, ASAP Campaign, a coalition of nonprofits, government agencies and labor unions, to spread the word.

Many public employees are already working through the process and will have loans forgiven soon. Read about two DC 37 members who received $345,000 in combined student loan forgiveness HERE.

Getting started is easy:

  • Use the 20-minute Help Tool StudentAid.gov/PSLF to see if you are eligible.
  • Visit PSLF.nyc to learn more, watch a video, join a webinar, or get one-on-one support.

Register here for the virtual PSLF webinar on Zoom on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 2 PM.

DC 37 MELS can provide assistance to eligible members seeking Public Service Loan Forgiveness or who have Student Loan issues. Call the MELS Screening Unit at 212-815-1111 for further information.
